I can slowly feel the funk fading.  Thank goodness.

On to business.  I wanted to do this activity with the kids all summer, but we never really got around to it.  Since it is pretending to be summer here and the kids are way into painting lately, I thought today would be a good day to try it out.

If you want to try this, you will need corn starch, food coloring (the kind in the dropper) and paint brushes.  You may also like to have some plastic cups, small rubbermaid containers and some play clothes for the kiddos.

We used Dixie cups today, which actually worked well for the attention span of my kids.  I did not make my mixture thick enough… boo.  You will want to make a 50/50 corn starch and water mixture in each cup.  It will look very opaque and milky.

Once you have your mixture ready, load it up with food coloring.  Lots of food coloring.  The colors will be very bright.

Head on outside and see what creations are just waiting to be made!

Ella painted her name almost immediately.

Benjamin decided to paint his feet and dumped one of the tubs of dirty water all over himself and the driveway.  Par for the course.

At first, the colors do not look as bright as you might expect them to (the picture actually makes them look brighter).  Don’t worry.  As the water evaporates, the colors become more opaque and show up much better.

Usually, I like to end the activity by dumping out the leftover paints and having us all run up and down the driveway with painted feet, but lunch time snuck up on us today.
